March 23 to March 29, 2009
March 24, 2009 - Parked at Rainbow RV Park, Mérida, Yucatán
Well, here we are once again at the Rainbow RV Park in Mérida. Must be our 20th visit, at least. This is a park that is constantly rumored to be ready to close. After all, a huge department store is right next door. Seems like prime property, and it is!
However, wonder of wonder. They are actually improving the park. This makes plans for an immediate closing seem unlikely. There are new electrical outlets, a new solar water heating system for the restrooms (that actually works!) and even construction underway on a new gate on the south side of the property. Access will be from the entry road between the park and the Liverpool store.
Rio Lagartos
We drove out to Rio Lagartos today to look around. Found a great free campsite right on the water. A great place to go see the Flamingos. Picture below.
Izamal
On the way back from Rio Lagartos stopped in Izamal. It's one of Mexico's Pueblos Magicos, a great day trip from Mérida. Picture below.
March 25, 2009 - Parked at Uxmal Parking Lot, Yucatán
Uxmal is one of our favorite archeological sites. It's usually quite crowded but we arrived late and found only three busses parked out front. We spent the night in the parking lot. A Motmot spent the morning perched above the rig, he apparently felt we needed watching.
March 27, 2009 - Parked at Yax Ha Resort - Chetumal, Quintana Roo
That's right, all the way back across the peninsula again to Chetumal. Time for Terri's stitches to be removed. After visiting the doctor we hit the Sam's Club near the waterfront for supplies and then spent time at the Museo de la Cultura Maya , one of our favorite Mexican museums.
